2012 Winter Racquetball League Starts!

WELCOME to the 12 new players that joined the racquetball league! We are at 70 players. This is fantastic! Let’s all stay healthy this season.

Important reminders for all of you (new and returning players):

+ Click on link “Schedules” at the top of the home page . Then click on “standings.teamocala.com”. Click your name within your division to display your schedule. If there are any changes made (i.e., new players added, BYE’s given, etc), you will be able to see these changes instantly.

+ Please CALL YOUR OPPONENT 24 hours before the match to verify date and time to avoid confusion at the courts.

+ ENTERING SCORES – On your schedule under your name, click on ‘Enter Scores’ to key in the results of each game. After a score is entered, your points will be awarded and the rankings list will be updated. You and your opponent will also get an email from team ocala verifying that scores have been entered.

LEAGUE RULES (these will also be posted at the courts):

* 2 games to 11 with a tiebreaker to 11.
* 2 serves for A, B, C & D Divisions. 1 serve for Open and Elite Divisions.
* Scoring: 1 point for playing match. 1 point for each game won.
* Wearing eye guards is mandatory.

B, C, & D divisions play Tuesday nights 5 – 9 p.m.
Open, Elite & A divisions play Thursday nights 5 – 9 p.m.

* If you don’t show up for – OR – you cannot make your scheduled match, call your opponent at least 24 hours ahead. It’s YOUR responsibility to reschedule the match. You will need to make-up the match within 7 days of the scheduled match.

* If you miss your scheduled match and did not call your opponent – OR – you did not make up your match within 7 days, it will count as a forfeit; your opponent will be awarded 3 points. Any competitor that carries more than 2 make-up matches will be contacted by a league coordinator.

* The top 4 finishers will play in the finals and prizes will be awarded to the 1st and 2nd place winners.

Fee: $20 to be paid to TEAM OCALA via cash or check. Pay Pal is now an option as well.

DO NOT pay at the YMCA front desk. Your fee includes entry for the league and expenses for awards and food on finals night.

THANK YOU! In total, the dollar amount we collected was close to $1,500 the weekend of Dec 16th and 17th. We had 25 players who competed in singles and doubles. On average, each player donated around $50 per person (cash equivalent). We also had almost $300 in cash donations from generous racquetball enthusiasts who were not able to participate.

Thanks goes to Daniel Bray (G-ville) and Cameron McGeouch (Inverness) for their willingness to put the flyer together as well as put the draws together. They did another great job of making this competitive and keeping matches going!

It was another team effort and we are excited that we were able to reach out and help some children and young adults in our community.

We will coordinate another Toy Drive Racquetball tournament again for 2012!

CHALLENGE COURT: will now be Monday AND Thursday nights between leagues.

2010 Toy Drive Racquetball Tournament

On Saturday, December 11, 2010, a one day racquetball tournament was held at the Marion County YMCA to help contribute to local families and children in need. The tournament directors were Cameron McGeoch, Daniel Bray, and Rod Van Dyke. The entry fee was a $20 unwrapped toy for the 1^st event, and a $10 unwrapped toy for the 2^nd event. There were 20 players that participated. There was representation from the YMCA racquetball league, Too Your Health Spa, and the Inverness area. In all, more than $1,000 worth of toys and donations were collected!

2010 US Open Racquetball Championships

I just returned from playing in my 8th US Open. The tournament was held in Minneapolis this year and will be for the next 5 years. I didn’t win any of my Divisions, but played well and watched some of the best racquetball in the world. Here’s some interesting facts from the US Open:

13 = Number of countries represented at this years tournament

766 = Number of players that entered to play

1,238 = Number of matches played at the US Open

21 = Number of courts used (3 different venues)
